Everybody and their uncle has a dog these days and more and more people are planning to own one of man's best friend. We see lovely, adorable and cuddly puppies and subservient dogs in commercials and movies. Most people take it for granted that these animals comes trained by default and this is mainly because the dog that they have seen on TV was well behaved. Dog training is one of the most misunderstood and underestimated part of dog ownership and since epic proportions have already been written on how to train a dog, I am not venturing out into that area. A less focused area it seems is how not to train a dog. Here are some ways you should never train your dog.
Never making the training process boring for the animal especially in the initial stages. A bored dog will also be a least responsive dog and this can negatively impact the training process. You should always try to make training as fun as possible. The dog should in the ideal sense, consider training as a time of fun and abundant praise. Never be reluctant to praise and always increase praise as the dog responds positively to training.
Training especially in the early stages should be in a calm and quiet area and never be at a place where the chances of getting distracted are high. It might be ok to take your dog to a park or a public area once the dog has been reasonably trained but always remember that an untrained animal is the perfect recipe for chaos in a public place and always make sure that you are confident about keeping your pet under control in public places.
